| The
endoscope is a device that allows us to see inside the trachea,
bronchi, stomach, intestines, or urogenital system to detect
a problem that would otherwise be difficult to see on an X-ray
or any other usual method.
A tube, combining fibre optic lighting properties
and a microcamera, allows for a clear colour picture to be
displayed on a video monitor.
This picture can be recorded on videotape. |
Inside this tube is a channel through which tiny pliers can
be inserted to retrieve a foreign object swallowed by the animal
or to get tissue samples for analysis (to identify a tumor,
for example).
| Computerized
axial tomography (CT Scan) is a revolutionary diagnostic procedure
in veterinary medicine in Québec.
It is used by our surgery,
oncology and internal medicine specialists to identify a tumor
before its excision. It allows us to accurately evaluate the
lesion that is to be excised and improves the possibility
of a complete resection. It is also useful when imaging the
conditions of the nervous and myoarthroskeletal systems. It
allows for the imagery of some anatomical areas (like the
nasal cavities) that are hard to evaluate with other imaging
techniques. It also allows us to visualize some abdominal
and thoracic organs that are sometimes difficult to evaluate
with ultrasonography. |

| The
intensive care room is vital to the aftercare of patients
requiring ongoing treatment.
The intensive care veterinarian works
constantly in this room with his technician to give to the
patients all the necessary care.
Fluid
Therapy
This treatment is used often and consists of an intravenous
(or sometimes subcutaneous) administration of solutions
that supply the necessary nutrients in order to avoid dehydration.
Such a treatment may be applied
in many situations: loss of appetite, diarrhea, vomiting,
kidney problems, shock, hemorrhaging, etc.
The intravenous administration is
done with an electromechanical pump that provides a precise
flow rate, even when the animal is moving or flexing its
paw.

We have a wide variety of instruments and equipment in order
to meet the various needs of surgical procedures.

That is why our surgical specialists
can do all types of interventions. |
| Laser Surgery |
| This
technology can be used in some types of surgical procedures
and allows for a much faster recovery. For example, in the
case of an onyxectomy, the cat can return home faster and
be a lot more comfortable.
It also helps control bleeding and the damage
done to the gums when performing the excision of a gingival
mass.
| Operating Microscope |
| This microscope
is specifically used for microsurgeries, such as eye surgery.
The delicate anatomy of the eye, the very small size of the
instruments and the suture material justify the use of such
a device. |
| Sterilization Unit |
Every
surgical kit, all the surgical drapes, gowns, towels and other
items
are sterilized to insure rigorous asepsis. |
| Preoperative and Recovery Room |
Located near
the treatment room, it allows us to keep our patients under
direct and constant observation.
We use state-of-the-art equipment as well
as isoflurane, a safe and modern anesthetic gas. All animals
under anesthesia undergo constant cardiovascular monitoring.
To minimize risks, three CO2 collectors are available at the
time of anesthesia.
Just like for newborns in
human hospitals, the incubator provides oxygen and/or warmth
to puppies and kittens as well as to small pets coming out
of a lengthy surgery (as their body temperature decreases)
or to any sick animal in a fragile state requiring warmth
and constant monitoring. We also have large warm air blankets
for large dogs.
Our oncology room allows us to administer chemotherapy treatments
that are safe for both the pet and the staff.

The certified exhaust hood used in the oncology room allows
for the safe preparation of cytotoxic drugs, insuring the
patient’s safety.
We have at our disposal a digital radiography system and a
fluoroscope, which are essential for the detection of various
types of problems in our patients.

These diagnostic tools are essential for our veterinarians!
| This
machine allows us to visualize internal organs.
Ultrasounds interact with the body’s different structures
and then create an echo that is registered by the machine
and converted into an image.
Each structure creates a different echo,
allowing us to differentiate the liver from the spleen and
other abdominal organs, to visualize the heart chambers as
well as foetuses, etc.
Our machine allows us to detect various heart
or lung problems, abdominal defects, and tumor related masses.
It is a vital tool for our oncology and internal medicine
specialists.
We have two types of ECG apparatus.
The first one provides the basic necessary information during
surgical monitoring. The second one, connected to a computer
system, is mostly used to establish a diagnosis as it analyses
the data collected. It displays the results on a screen
and prints them for our records.

| This
room is used by Dr. Angelika Stock for small animal reproductive
system examination and for artificial insemination.
Part of this room is also used to store liquid
nitrogen cylinders containing canine semen either frozen by
Dr. Stock or imported from various countries. Blood samples
for the blood bank are taken and stored here as well.

| Equipped
with an ultrasonic scaler and a dental digital radiography
system, our dentistry department is a state-of-the-art facility.

In addition, our team of technicians
and veterinarians remains on the lookout for new breakthroughs
in the field of animal dentistry.
The treatment room remains a mandatory stop for all hospitalized
and/or boarded pets.
| Our
laboratory has all the necessary equipment for our veterinarians
and technicians to perform the majority of analyses on site,
whether hematological or biochemical, as well as microscopic
observations, allowing for a fast and accurate diagnosis.

| Our
kennel consists of 40 stainless steel cages of various sizes
as well as 19 runs.
Dogs can’t see each other when they
are in their cages, thanks to the kennel layout.
It is equipped with a ventilation and air-conditioning
system that is independent from the rest of the hospital.

| Our
cattery consists of 31 stainless steel cages of various sizes.

Boarded and hospitalized cats
are kept in this
quiet room, apart from canine distractions.
We also have a room where we keep quarantined
contagious animals.
Therefore, no contagious animal is ever
in physical contact with
any kennel or cattery boarder.
The boardroom is very useful to give continuous
training to all our staff.
